In 1995, Louis-Albert de Broglie started to cultivate a collection of tomato varieties he had gathered during his many trips, in the gardens of the the Château de la Bourdaisière, at Mont-Louis-sur-Loire (Indre et Loire). In 1998, the collection was approved by the Conservatory of Specialized Plant Collections (CCVS for its French acronym) and the vegetable garden officially became the National Tomato Conservatory, world's biggest collection of tomato varieties. Founded in 1999, Kokopelli is actively collecting and selling organic varieties of seeds that are not registered in the official catalogues. The association's members have always been involved in the preservation and enhancement of the existing agricultural biodiversity, calling for awareness in the name of food sovereignty and the well-being of future generations.
